We had to read it in high school - and I absolutely hated it- I have always referred to it as Withering Depths ever since. I don't think I ever finished it then. I did manage to read it as an adult- possibly even twice I think, but then recently tried to read it again, and couldn't get beyond 10 pages. I can't even watch it on the tele. I'm a great one for all those BBC period dramas, except when it's Wuthering Heights. A few years ago I got to read the books of her Bronte sisters- again so much more enjoyable. I've come to the realisation I think that I won't ever appreciate this book as it is meant. I'm very glad that you can though.Louisehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13187730620736345378noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3027982062971332677.post-51404392708654911202012-04-15T21:36:58.821-07:002012-04-15T21:36:58.821-07:00I had to give the opening three tries before I was...I had to give the opening three tries before I was able to get through it because I was so thrown by Lockwood's narration and then that character who spoke in the awful dialect (that my copy translated at the bottom)-was it Joseph? I don't even remember because I hated this book SO MUCH! Jane Eyre is oodles better! The Insouciant Sophisticatehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03934853089105345052noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3027982062971332677.post-91073002652698227612012-04-12T13:07:13.454-07:002012-04-12T13:07:13.454-07:00I am so glad that you had the same experience as I...I am so glad that you had the same experience as I did (although it would be better if we both actually liked it). One friend told me that I would "just fall in love with Heathcliff". Um, no. He's horrible. So is Cathy for that matter. The only person I liked was Hareton!Sarah Reads Too Muchhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06130692983823811455noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3027982062971332677.post-83475080699468156802012-04-10T22:33:57.476-07:002012-04-10T22:33:57.476-07:00Thanks for the review, it's a great review for...Thanks for the review, it's a great review for a book that I just can't read. I've tried several times, and haven't been able to. Maybe I'll try again now that I understand a little better! :)Lorrihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13214339538058353516noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3027982062971332677.post-81913600963826710302012-04-06T08:05:00.672-07:002012-04-06T08:05:00.672-07:00I had exactly the same reaction when I read it - T...I had exactly the same reaction when I read it - THIS GUY is supposed to be a romantic hero? :O

I was also surprised at how much the story covered after the love story had finished.

This is my least favourite story by a Bronte. Villette and Jane Eyre are both much better, in my opinion.Sam (Tiny Library)https://www.blogger.com/profile/16375434438465319913noreply@blogger.com
